Ukraine asked the US for Tomahawk missiles during the visit
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, met this Friday (17) at the White House, in Washington, with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyj, and assessed that there is a good chance of putting an end to the war in Eastern Europe.
The Republican, who praised his colleague’s formal appearance at the beginning of the meeting, said that the Ukrainian is a “strong leader” and assessed that sending Tomahawk missiles would represent an escalation in the conflict against Russia.
“I think we have a very good chance of quickly ending the war in Ukraine, but these two leaders don’t like each other, we want everyone to feel at ease. They both negotiate well, but there is a lot of hatred between them,” the American said.
Zelensky, in turn, analyzed that Trump has “great chances of stopping the war” and is ready to “talk in any way: bilateral or trilateral.”
“It’s time to end the war in Ukraine. I trust in this with your help [EUA]we can put an end to this. First we need to sit down and talk. Secondly, we need a ceasefire,” the president said.
The European head of state added that the most important thing for his country is “to have strong security guarantees” and did not rule out “offering drones” to the Americans in exchange for Tomahawks, guided missiles for long-range attacks.
Zelensky also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “not ready” for peace and made no secret of the fact that he is “starting to get along” with Trump.
This was the third time that the Ukrainian traveled to the American capital to talk to the tycoon and negotiate progress that could end the war against the Russians, which began in 2022. .
