Queen’s Game: Netflix signs deal with chess champion who accused series of sexism

Netflix announced that it reached an agreement with Nona Gaprindashvili (source: The Hollywood Reporter). The former Georgian chess champion filed a complaint against the platform in September 2021 and found the series Le Jeu de la Dame guilty. “Sexism” and about “humiliating” against him.

In the last episode of the program, the commentator really compares the heroine of the series Beth Harmon (a fictional character) and Nona Gaprindashvili and claims that the latter became an international grandmaster without male opponents. Which is completely false, as the ex-champion’s lawyers recalled in a complaint filed in a federal court in California.

The nature of the financial agreement was not disclosed to either side, and the amount of 5 million dollars was requested by Nona Gaprindashvili, who continues to participate in the best chess tournaments of 81 years.

The Game of Queen miniseries is still available exclusively on Netflix.
