‘The Batman’ has been officially available on the HBO Max streaming service since last Monday, so now is a good time to see how it has done on the big screen so far.
The latest big screen version of Batman has become the first film of 2022 to spend three-quarters of a billion dollars at the box office, currently sitting at $751,602.773 million worldwide, as of this writing. As expected, andso also makes it the highest grossing movie of the year so farboth globally and nationally.
Second is the epic Chinese war film ‘The battle in the lake Changjin II’, also known as ‘Water Gate Bridge’. That film earned more than 626 million compared to 751 million for ‘The Batman’, although practically all the collection comes from China.
Speaking about passing the milestone, Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution, Jeff Goldsteinhe said (via Deadline): “The incredible response we’ve seen in theaters across the country is a testament to both the enduring power of this iconic DC Super Hero and the huge appetite for experiencing great movies on the big screen. We congratulate everyone involved for reaching this impressive milestone.“.
The film has not only been a commercial success (it was released on March 4), but has also received much critical acclaim. All the media have highly praised the work of Matt Reeves at the helm of this new version.
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, paul dano, Jeffrey Wright Y Colin Farrelll, and the film’s success has already sparked rumors of a sequel. Especially for that surprising ending, in which a conversation between Enigma and a cell neighbor in Arkham prison, The Joker, appeared.
Speaking about the future of the DC Universe earlier this year, Warner Bros boss, Toby Emmerichsaid the studio’s focus is on quality and praised director Matt Reeves for achieving that with “The Batman.”
“Quality is the most important factor for a studio, and the most important thing you can do to influence quality is the filmmaker you hire.“, he pointed. “When (Reeves) submitted the first draft of the script, he remembered Batman as the world’s greatest detective. He talked about the Warner Bros gangster movies of yesteryear and how to capture that gangster DNA.“.
The film has been available on HBO since April 18.
