Actor Kevin Bacon (“They/Them”) makes his MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) debut this Friday (11/25), with the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special” on Disney+. Except he’s not playing a superhero whose identity needs to be kept a secret. Indeed, the star plays a famous character – Kevin Bacon himself.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine about the role, he admitted, “It feels good to make a fool of myself or play an exaggerated version of myself.”

“I don’t get the chance to do funny silly things that often,” she continued. “I’m often part of something more dramatic or something darker and edgier. So walking into this world… I mean, they call it the Marvel Universe, but when you walk into those sets, it really feels like you’re walking in another. universe.”

The plot of the holiday special will follow cosmic heroes Drax (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff), who come to Earth in search of the perfect Christmas present to cheer up their Earth leader Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). ). And the present in question is none other than Earth’s Greatest Hero: Kevin Bacon, who doesn’t seem too happy about being kidnapped and taken into space.

Peter Quill’s admiration for the actor was mentioned in the original film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, in a scene where the protagonist refers to Bacon as one of Earth’s great heroes. The actor said that mention nearly knocked him out of his seat at the theater when he went to see the 2014 film to honor director James Gunn, with whom he worked on the comedy “Super” (2010). .

“I knew it was going to be a good movie because James was involved, but I had no idea my name would be mentioned,” Bacon said, speaking of his reaction to watching the first “Guardians of the Galaxy.” “So it was quite a shock. I would say it was almost like an out-of-body experience. It’s one thing for someone to use your name in a comedy or drama, but that’s a whole different universe — it was literally a planet where these people were talking about me.”

He was so excited that he said he bought new tickets to see Guardians again, this time inviting his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick (who also makes a voice cameo in the holiday special). “I called Kyra and said, ‘I want you to see this movie,'” he said. “‘First of all, it’s amazing. Second of all, something really crazy happens to him, and I’m not going to say what it is.'”

The Christmas Special was directed by James Gunn, the same director of the previous ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies, and Bacon shared a fun fact about the shoot: ‘I’ve never seen the cast without makeup, so it was like meeting them like if they were their characters”.

At the same time, everyone was calling them, on and off the set, by their real names. “It was fun to walk in and everyone was calling me Kevin Bacon all day.”
