Preparation of the document had been halted due to lack of funds, but programming and service continued to function normally
Justice Minister Anderson Torres informed, via his official Twitter account, that the issuance of passports resumed on December 23.
The drafting of the document had been interrupted for the first time on November 19 due to lack of funds, but R$ 37.36 million was allocated the following week to reactivate the service.
Resources from the National Science and Technology Development Fund were sufficient to produce the required documents between November 19 and 30, but the issuance was suspended again on December 1.
This time, a bill passed by President Jair Bolsonaro released an additional R$31 million for the issuance of passports requested between December 1 and 22.
During this period, in which the online programming of the service and the service at the Federal Police Headquarters continued to operate regularly, a queue of almost 109,000 people was formed waiting to receive the document.
