Legendary animator Glenn Keane oversaw the creation of the monster character. To do this, he was inspired by several different species of animals. Thus, the monster has the mane of a lion, the legs of a pig, the legs and tail of a wolf, the eyebrows of a gorilla, the tip of a bison and the body of a bear.

The creator of the monster, this mythical Disney animator also stands behind many other characters from the enchanted studios: we owe him to Aladdin, Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Bernard Marathon Eagle, and Bianca in Kangaroos, Tarzan, Pocahontas, or even Rapunzel.

In the introductory sequence of the feature film, we can read the following Latin words on the prison stained glass windows: “Vincite Who Vincite” (Formula that can be translated as: “Whoever can overcome he will win”). This motto refers to the challenge of a monster who has to overcome his selfish nature in order to seduce Bell.
