Gary Rossington survived the 1977 plane crash that killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd
Gary Rossingtonguitarist and last original member in Lynyrd Skynyrd, died last Sunday, 5, at the age of 71. The news was confirmed on the band’s official profile on social networks, without information about the cause of death.
“It is with our deepest sadness and solidarity that we must inform you that we have lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossingtontoday,” says the text published on Facebook. “Gary is now with his brothers and family skynyrd in the sky, playing beautifully, as he always did.”
“Please include Dale, mary, annie and the family rossington in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time,” completes the note, with mentions to the musician’s family.
Gary was the last original member still touring with the band. He survived the plane crash that resulted in the deaths of three other members of the Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1977: Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines It is Cassie Gaines.
Band resumed activities 10 years later, in 1987, with remaining members and Johnny Van Zantyounger brother of ronnie.
