The Who may not return to US shows due to financial difficulties, says Roger Daltrey

After the pandemic, tours became more expensive; Roger Daltrey still highlighted old age to continue with shows

The Who may not return to the United States and America in general. Roger Daltrey revealed in an interview with USA Today (via billboard), which, with advanced age and prices changed by the pandemic, tours across the ocean should no longer happen.

“There’s only one tour we could do, Quadrophenia, to go through the catalog. But it’s hard to sing these songs. I’ll be 80 in 2024. I would never say never, but at the moment it’s very unlikely,” explained the vocalist.

After the covid-19 pandemic, financial conditions to perform a series of shows were also drastically changed, warned the musician: “We have no way to guarantee it. Most big bands doing shows in arenas, as soon as they make the first presentation, rehearsals and hire the team, buses and hotels, the expenses are already between US$600,000 and US$1 million.”

“If you’re on a 12-show tour, you don’t start making money back until the seventh or eighth date. That’s how the business works. The problem now is, if you get covid after the first show, you lose that money ,” he added.

Why won’t The Who release more unreleased songs?

The band released an album, whoin 2019, and although it won a gold record for sales in British territory, the impact was below expectations in the opinion of Daltrey and, therefore, the group should not release new songs, as pointed out in an interview with NME.

What’s the point of releasing new music? What’s the point of releasing an album today? We released an album four years ago and it came to nothing. It’s a great album too, but there’s no interest in new music these days. People want to listen to old music. I don’t know why, but that’s the truth.
