The first single from the Sabotage 50 years project was released this Tuesday, the 18th, featuring NINA do Porte
One of the greatest Brazilian rappers in history, Mauro Mateus dos Santosbetter known as sabotage, would turn 50 in 2023, on April 3. To celebrate the singer’s life and career, his family announced a more than special project with very interesting news, such as an unpublished album (in partnership with the record label Free sound), film, illustrated biographical book, and more.
Entitled Sabotage 50 yearsthe project is led by Tamires Rocha It is Wanderson “Sabotinha” dos Santos, children of the iconic artist, and will also feature an immersive exhibition, a series of short films, clothing lines, accessories and stationery items. During an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil, Tamires spoke about this series of tributes, which began this Tuesday, the 18th, with the release of the remix of “Respect is for those who have,” with the participation of NINA do Porte.

“This project has been in our hearts for a while now. With the fans, we always keep the legacy [do Sabotage] alive. We also have a lot of things from my dad that we would like to be shared with the fans, with the people who listen and like him, not just with us,” said the rapper’s daughter.
So, we started thinking about different projects, many things, many ideas… to put them into practice.
The album with re-recordings should be released in 2023 and, in addition to NINA do Porte, Philip Ret, Orochi, Creole, Vandal It is Djonga were also invited. Each artist will re-record a classic sabotage with new verses. the organization of Sabotage 50 years decided to bring names that never recorded the rapper’s songs – that’s why Mano Brown, RZO It is Rappin’ Hood do not feature on the album.
A Rolling Stone Brazil, Tamires explained how these artists were chosen for the re-recordings because they are inspired by sabotage, in addition to having a relationship with their children. “In this new album, we bring a new face. They write today because they were inspired by someone, and that someone was sabotage,” he said.
Nothing better than starting the cycle of a new album with NINA do Portewhich represents a lot of black women from the periphery, according to Tamires Rocha. “Let’s say we’re the Side B of sabotage: dark side that militates for the favela and our causes. ‘Respect is for those who have‘ is a song that marked her life a lot, it marks mine and many people’s,” he explained. We chose to open the album with this song so that everyone can see what respect is for those who have it, respect the mines, the favela, the periphery and our fight!
The other products besides the album are yet to be released, but the biographical book and the immersive exhibition, which will feature objects, manuscripts and items from sabotageshould come out in 2023. The film will end this 50-year manifesto – and spoiler: it will feature unreleased songs that are part of the singer’s legacy.
We know that sabotage it is not something small, nor limited. When I’m a fan of an artist, I want to see everything about him, a series, movie, book, unreleased songs… so we always want something more from our idol. We already had these projects in mind and now we put them all into practice.
As Tamires Rocha explained, she and sabotinha want to surprise fans with Sabotage 50 years and show all the importance that the artist still has, not only within rap, but also in Brazilian music.
