From 29 to 30 April the program includes music production workshops, passinho battle, fashion shows, DJs, free concerts and more.
Rhythm that is almost the essence of broken, funk has also become popular among female vocalists. Thinking about this visibility and the potential of the mines, the first edition of Festival of the National Front of Women Funk. It will take place on April 29 and 30, in Cidade Tiradentes, east of São Paulo, and admission is free.
The program includes music production workshops, passinho battles, concerts, fashion shows, conversation clubs, visual arts exhibitions, short films and documentaries. The initiative aims to present the plurality of funk from a female perspective, bringing together different artistic languages, cultural operators and the community.
“It is a cultural action produced exclusively by women so that the female gaze expands within the artistic structures of funk. Its representativeness reflects the essential importance and professionalism of women in the movement, especially black women who are rendered invisible in the artistic and professional process of culture,” says Renata Prado, creator, national articulator and spokesperson for the National Women’s Front in the funk.
The event also aims to dialogue with the funk youth as a whole. “In addition to highlighting the female presence, the project brings together great artists of the scene. Different aspects of the genre will be present: conscious funk, trap funk, mandelão, among others,” adds Renata.
On April 29, for example, the program is punctuated by the solo exhibition “Surviving in Hell”, by the artist Fernanda Souzada Grajaú, as well as a music production workshop with DJ Pablo RB, author of hits such as “Bota na Pipokinha”, by MC Pipokinha.
Another highlight is the screening of the documentary “Mortos em Abril”, followed by a chat with the screenwriters and researchers Guilherme Lúcio and Cabra, the councilor Elaine Mineiro (representative of the government of the collective mandate Quilombo Periférico) and Fernanda Garcia (law student and sister of Dennys Guilherme, a young man assassinated by the prime minister at the DZ7 ball in December 2019) on police violence and its relationship to funk culture.
There will also be a passinho battle with reputable judges in the funk world to ensure the battle is of a high standard, worth prize money.
On Sunday April 30, the festival hosts concerts by MCs such as Lalão of TDS, Nego Blue and Cebezinho. On the same date the iconic sets of DJs Gabi Nas, Menezes and Negaly take place.
“Most of the attractions chosen to participate in the festival are residents of Cidade Tiradentes, a neighborhood in the far east of São Paulo, known as the birthplace of funk in São Paulo.
