Lauryn Hilla five-time Grammy winner, will embark on a tour to celebrate 25 years of her iconic debut album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998). The former group of hill, The Fugeeswill open for the US and Canadian dates.
The 17-date tour will tour the world’s best-known arenas, including Barclays in Brooklyn, United Center in Chicago, Kia Forum in Los Angeles, as well as Australia, New Zealand and more.
In a press release, Hill said that The Miseducation of Lauryn Hillit was and is a love letter to all the people who followed its history, including the family and its musical and cultural ancestors.
I wrote love songs and protest songs – (which are still love songs) about subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of this type could only live on in the past.”
Mixing elements of R&B, hip-hop and pop, the debut album by Lauryn Hill was one of the most influential albums of the 1990s. Inducted into the Library of Congress in 2015, it was the first hip-hop album to receive the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and made hill the first woman to be nominated for 10 Grammy Awards in one year and the first woman to win five Grammys in one night.
I felt duty bound to challenge the idea that certain types of expression and/or certain types of people don’t belong in certain places. I loved showing what could work or happen as long as there was imagination, creativity and LOVE leading the way.”
