Actress Jennifer Lopez will take on the role that Sônia Braga immortalized on film in the musical remake of “Kiss of the Spider Woman”.
The new version is inspired by the 1993 Broadway musical, based on Hector Babenco’s 1985 film, which won an Oscar for William Hurt. However, the story is the same, based on Manuel Puig’s book about Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser who serves eight years in prison for corrupting a minor and shares a cell with a political activist during the dictatorship.
Trying to escape his miserable life, Molina invents stories about Aurora (Braga’s character in the film and J.Lo’s character in the remake), a former movie star, and the various roles she has played, including Spider-Woman, who kills its prey. with a kiss.
The new version will be written and directed by musical theater specialist Bill Condon, screenwriter of “Chicago” and director of “Dreamgirls” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
Filming is expected to begin in April 2024, but there’s no release date yet.
