Mike Posner says he no longer identifies with ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’

Posner celebrated his 36th birthday and compared the lyrics to ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’ with his current life

Mike Posner celebrated his 36th birthday by remembering one of his biggest hits, “I Took a Pill in Ibiza”, which turned a decade old. The artist stated in an Instagram post that he is proud of the man he has become and that he no longer identifies with the lyrics he wrote.

On my 26th birthday, I wrote ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’… Ten years ago. The song became popular many years after I wrote it. Yesterday, I celebrated my 36th birthday. I feel proud to look at the lyrics of the song and know that NONE of that is still true. I have grown into a new man… One that I am proud of.

Posner compared excerpts from the song with the changes he experienced. He starts the track saying he took a pill in Ibiza so that Avicii thought he was cool, but now the singer has assured that he loves himself and no longer does “things that hurt” his body to “try to make people” like him.

Then, in the lyrics of the song, Posner brags about making “millions of dollars” and spending his money on “girls and shoes.” He confessed that he donated much of his sneaker collection and doesn’t need to “prove anything to anyone but God.”

Mike, then, talks about not stopping using drugs so as not to be alone. Unlike these verses, he revealed that he has built a community in recent years and that he has invested in his relationship with his mother and sister.

“You don’t want to be stuck on that stage, singing / Stuck on that stage, singing / All I know are sad songs, sad songs,” the song goes. Posnerhowever, argued that “he is happier than he has ever been in his life.”

Refuting his own verse in which he says “I’m just a singer who already had his chance”, the artist said that he crossed America and climbed Everest, becoming “inspirational for” himself.

Posner The song continues saying that he can’t maintain a loving relationship: “The truth is that I can’t open up.” With the help of therapists, he overcame his “fear of intimacy” and recognized “old patterns,” which led him to begin “the most beautiful relationship he’s ever had.”

“All I know are sad songs, sad songs”, he emphasizes in the lyrics. “I also know songs of redemption, freedom, faith, and devotion,” he wrote in the Instagram post.

“I love you guys. If you’re going through some shit right now, keep going. You have no idea how good your life could be in 10 years,” he added. Posner.
