Vocalist of one of the biggest grunge bands died three decades ago, but his collaboration in the world of music is unforgettable and timeless
Kurt Cobain was the founder of the band Nirvana and one of the main names in grunge rock in the 1990s. Unfortunately, at the height of his career, Cobain committed suicide. Singer, guitarist and composer, born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, USA. He lived his adolescence and youth in contact with music. In his hometown, he had contact with the punk rock band Melvins and, since then, he fell in love with music. At 14, he got his first guitar and started making covers of bands, like AC DCbut soon started writing and composing his own songs.
During high school, he became friends with the bassist Krist Novoselic and they started playing together. Years later, the duo joined the drummer Aaron Burckhardand formed the Nirvana. In 1989, the newly formed band released their first album, Bleach, but was unsuccessful. Next year, Burckhard left the group and David Grohltook over the drums.
After several independent presentations,Nirvana was recognized by the record company DGC Records. In the mid-1990s, they presented the single“Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The song was a huge – and unexpected – success, reaching the top of the charts. Then they released the album Nevermind (1991). Thus, the band marked the movement grunge and alternative rock.
In the era of great prestige and fame, Kurt started using some drugs, such as heroin. In 1993, the band released In Utero, another success. Just like fame, the frustrations of Cobain they only increased. After the iconic recording of the MTV Unplugged, In 1994, the musician worsened in relation to drug use. On a trip to Europe with his girlfriend Courtney Love (singer and leader of the group Hole) and daughter Frenchoverdosed and was taken to the hospital.
