The court decides to determine the cause of Gal Costa’s death

The defense of the singer’s only son celebrated the decision, but underlined that it will appeal against the decision that denied the transfer of the body to Rio

The defense of Gabriel Costa, only son of singer Gal Costa (1945-2022), reported that the court has decided to determine the cause of the artist’s death. In an official note they celebrate the in-depth investigation into the facts

“It is worth mentioning that Samu has already issued a note stating that he does not certify the cause of death, and it is up to the doctor who signs the death to clarify the circumstances that led him to declare ‘acute myocardial infarction and lymphoma of the neck and head”. It is also important to clarify “why the body was not subjected to an autopsy” we read in part of the text sent to the press.

However, the authorities rejected the heir’s request for exhumation because it went beyond the administrative and registration sphere of the Public Records Court, which was responsible for analyzing the request. The young man will appeal against the decision that denied the transfer of the artist’s body to Rio de Janeiro.

“Wilma [Petrillo, a viúva] I was not unaware of Gal Costa’s desire to be buried alongside her mother, Mariah, in a tomb purchased in Rio de Janeiro. In this way, Gabriel Costa’s defense will appeal against the part of the court’s decision that did not allow the transfer of Gal Costa’s body to Rio de Janeiro,” say Gabriel’s lawyers.

Wilma’s defense rebounds

Wilma’s defense team told Splash they did not have access to the case files that required exhumation and said the singer’s medical records are available at the Albert Einstein Hospital, where she underwent cancer treatment. “It is curious that Gabriel never asked for access to such documents and did not even seek out the doctors who treated his mother. Gabriel’s accusations against Wilma are very serious and he will have to prove them,” he says in a statement.

On the other hand, the defense stated that Wilma will “never” oppose any investigation into the motive for the killing of Gal Costa. The note also specifies that the artist’s body was buried in São Paulo because that is where he lived in the city, as did his son and his widow.

“As for the fact that Gal was buried in SP, it is a decision that took into account the wishes of the singer herself, who chose SP as her favorite city to live in until the end of her life, having the title of citizen of São Paulo and it made sense to be buried in the city where the widow and son live”, the document completed.
