At the press conference for the new EP “Qual Amor Te Faz Feliz?”, Paula Fernandes talks about a new phase – in music and in her personal life – and provokes the country music market: “hire more women”
Countryside prejudices
In 2009, when Paula Fernandes achieved her first national success, Firebird, at 24 (she started singing at 9), was the only female representative of country music among the most played on the radio. “I entered a market dominated by male couples, in a system entirely prepared for men,” she says.
Despite the progress, according to her, the scenario remains unfavorable to women, which is easily seen in the line-up of the largest such parties in the country. “I miss seeing some female faces on the concert posters I see around. It’s exactly this fileeeira of a man” And he provokes: “Attention entrepreneurs: hire more women!”.
For her, the difficulty of renewal is a cultural reflection of the genre itself. “The fellow countryman, in himself, had difficulty penetrating other states. And, since he was predominantly male, it was even more difficult for us.” I felt strange being a unique voice, a solo artist, in a genre renowned for duets – Leonardo AND Danielfor example, they began to sing as soloists after the death of their companions, Leandro AND John Paulas happened with some country duets.
When it emerged, college country music dominated the charts. With romantic and bucolic songs, Paula was a phenomenon out of the ordinary.
Since then, he has dealt with fame as best he can. In the best way possible, of course. At the end of the press conference, he revealed that he regretted having remained silent while speculation was being made about his life: “When my career exploded, I had to mature quickly. If I had had social media at that time, I would not have remained silent to criticism and at fake news I would have had the courage to look at the camera and say “I’m not that person”.
And what is Paula Fernandes like? “I’m discreet, introspective. I tend to look beyond the margins, like any miner,” she says. In the new era of your career, you want to take control of your image
