Pearl Jam were forced to cancel concerts in Berlin and London last week due to an unspecified illness affecting band members. Singer Eddie Vedder described the matter as a “near-death experience” during his return to the stage in Barcelona at the weekend.
“Can I just say that last week felt almost like a near-death experience? It was very uncomfortable and scary. It felt like bronchitis in your chest. It felt like maybe you couldn’t breathe, maybe you couldn’t cope. all night and maybe you had to go to the hospital.”, said Eddie.
Although the singer did not say who in the band was hit other than “some of us“, made clear the profound impact this health scare has had on him.”You realize how precious this life is“, he said. “We’re so lucky to live on a planet where we can go out and play for amazing people like the people in this room here tonight. So it was a moving experience. I won’t soon forget it. And we won’t soon forget this night..”
According to Billboard, last week, the Pearl Jam announced the cancellation of the show in a statement, writing on social media: “Despite everyone’s best efforts, the band has not yet fully recovered. The impacts of this decision are not going unnoticed by us. We are deeply sorry that so many people spend time, money and emotional energy to get tickets and then come see the band, and it is painful to have to disappoint them. We also appreciate the many people whose hard work it takes to make these shows happen..”
It is worth mentioning that the band’s next show will be at the Mad Cool Festival, in Madrid, Spain, on Thursday (11). After the show in Portugal on July 13, they will have a month off before resuming their Dark Matter world tour on August 22 in the United States.

Pearl Jam announced this Monday (1) that they were forced to do so cancel two additional shows on their European tour health problems of its membersIt is not known which members are recovering or what illnesses they are dealing with.

And they concluded: “We hope that this leg of the tour can be rescheduled and look forward to returning soon. Tickets will be refunded upon purchase. Thank you for your continued understanding and support. It means the world.”
