In an interview with AXS TV, the guitarist spoke about how Mercury remained ‘brave and dignified’ in his final days before he passed away.

The guitarist of Queen, Brian Mayspoke openly about the last days of Freddie Mercury and reflected on how she “never saw him cry.” During an interview with AXS TV, May discussed the band’s legacy:

“We always said that if one of us left, it would be the end. So Roger (drummer) and I were devastated and thought it was over, and we didn’t even want to talk about it for a long time,” the guitarist shared.

In 1991, after Mercury’s death, the band members decided to take a break. However, from the following decade onwards, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor They returned to performing shows and tours with guest vocalists for the occasions.

Also in the interview, May spoke about how Mercury was during the last days of his life: “We made the last album, Made In Heavenwith the tracks Freddie left for us to play. It became a real labor of love”

“He was very discreet about it,” he adds: “I never saw him cry or feel sorry for himself. He never did that, he was like, ‘Let’s do this, let’s keep doing things. ‘ Freddy was always inspiring. If he was here now, we’d be doing what we’ve always done, I’m sure.”

The guitarist also discussed the role of Adam Lambert in the band and added that the singer always brings a fresh take on things and isn’t afraid to speak openly about what they should try.

“The songs aren’t fossils, they’re alive and evolving with Adam, which is great. Sometimes he surprises me,” May said.
