Dream Career in NCT

NCT Dream is the third official subunit of South Korean boy group NCT, created by SM Entertainment in 2016. Originally composed of teenage members on a rotation system, the group discontinued this practice in 2020 when its members became adults. The subunit made its debut in August 2016 with the single “Chewing Gum”. The seven members are Sign, Renjun, Jen, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle AND Jisung.

Internationally recognized as one of the most prominent teen acts of their time, NCT Dream is known for their music that reflects youthful growth. The title tracks cover various stages of adolescent development, from innocence to rebellion and maturation. The commercial success of their 2019 EP “We Boom” positioned NCT Dream as one of the top 10 physical album sellers in South Korea that year and earned the group awards at the 34th Golden Disc Awards and the 29th Seoul Music Awards in 2020.

Initially, NCT Dream followed an age-based graduation and admission system, where members left the unit upon turning 20 in Korean age (19 internationally). In 2020, SM Entertainment announced the removal of this system, allowing the return of graduated member Mark and establishing NCT Dream as a group with a flexible style while retaining the original seven members. This change was marked by the release of the EP “Reload” in April 2020.

NCT Dream is the first and only Asian artist to appear on Billboard’s “21 Under 21” list three times in a row, in 2018, 2019, and 2020, ranking at #20, #13, and #19, respectively, due to their impact on sales, streaming, and social media. In 2018, Time included NCT Dream in its list of the year’s “25 Most Influential Teens,” highlighting their connection with young audiences.
