Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 has just ended, and boy, what an adventure it has been. Paramount + subscribers saw Captain Pike try a “What if?” storyline in which he avoided his training accident and fought a Romulan ship alongside a familiar captain that fans know well: James T. Kirk. Paul Wesley made a surprise debut in the Season 1 finale and also had a meeting with Ethan Peck’s Spock. The swap may not be exactly what fans wanted, but Wesley shared some details with Gossipify about how they’ll proceed in Season 2.
Spock and Kirk are an iconic duo in star Trek, but in Pike’s alternate reality, they never had a chance to forge that strong bond. However, the two do share some interactions in the finale and will eventually build a strong bond in the true future beyond. strange new worlds. I asked Paul Wesley if he had talked about those scenes with actor Ethan Peck and he told me that the two have a Spock / Kirk dynamic right now, as well as some information about the second season:
for me episode 1 [with Spock], let’s continue with what was on the page. In season 2, we explore their dynamic further. I can’t dwell too much. What I’m going to say is that Ethan and I are really friends now. It’s a lot of fun, and I don’t know if it’s subconscious, but we actually have this Kirk / Spock dynamic in real life. It’s so funny. We chat, we go out, have dinner, go for a drink. We write continuously. We have these kinds of natural things that he and I have developed. It makes things a lot easier on screen because we can just be ourselves.
It’s surprising to know that Kirk and Spock’s new cast members are now friends. It’s also nice to know that we will see more of the two characters interact in the second season, as that was not a given with Kirk’s current state in strange new worlds. As Gossipify learned at the start of the season, Kirk will be an officer in the farragut in season 2 . The season finale further confirmed this, as Pike assessed Kirk’s case once he returned from the alternate reality shown to him in the Time Crystal.
Paul Wesley teased other scenes with Spock strange new worlds Season 2, but added something noteworthy. Wesley hinted at how a moment in the Season 1 finale talked about what’s in store for Season 2:
You have that flash in the Season 1 finale. The first time Kirk appears on screen, he says, “Great, Mr. Spock. He immediately recognizes that this guy has a different way of thinking that he finds very intriguing. So, we get a taste of that, but that’s not what this episode is about. And finally, in the second season, it’s still the Pike show. They are Pike, Spock and Uhura. It’s before the Kirk Enterprise. Whatever happens, Kirk is part of that timeline. It’s not just Kirk’s show, it’s just [not] what’s new [laughs].
Paul Wesley made a joke at the end that might raise some eyebrows, though Anson Mount sure about Gossipify in so many words that Pike isn’t going anywhere. strange new worlds it’s a pre-kirk Agency show, so maybe we shouldn’t go into season 2 immediately wondering what Kirk is up to, but rather how it affects the history of the current bridge team.
Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds recently completed production and many in the cast pretend it’s even better than the first season . It’s a quite high bar to praise critics and fans alike, so it will be interesting to see what new adventures are on the way and how the team responds to them.
