Elon Musk stamps his foot and does not comply with the court’s orders! Starlink Holdinga company under the command of the ever-audacious billionaire Elon Musk, is on the verge of losing its authorization to operate in Brazil. All because Musk, known for defying conventions and authorities, decided to ignore a direct order from Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The decision determined the blocking of access to X (formerly Twitter) in the country, but in a typically bold move, Starlink decided it would not comply with the order.
Administrative Process
Carlos Baigorri, president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), highlighted the scenario during an interview with the Estúdio i program on GloboNews, this Monday (2). According to Baigorri, if Musk and his Starlink continue to play at defying the law, the company will face an administrative process that could lead to the loss of authorization to operate in Brazil.
Baigorri explained that, like any other company that considers itself above the law, Starlink will be subject to legal protocol. Penalties range from a simple warning to a fine and, if necessary, the revocation of the grant. “If the grant is revoked, the Starlink loses authorization to offer telecommunications services in Brazil,” he declared, making it clear that not even Musk’s empire is above Brazilian laws.
Unanimous decision
In a demonstration that the STF is not joking around, the First Chamber decided, unanimously, to maintain the suspension of Twitter/X in Brazil. In addition to Moraes himself, ministers Flávio Dino, Cristiano Zanin, Cármen Lúcia and Luiz Fux voted in favor of maintaining the suspension, reminding Musk that, as innovative as he may be, even he has to obey the rules.
On Sunday (1st), in a gesture that could only be described as classic Muskthe Starlink informed Anatel that it would not comply with Moraes’s order until its accounts, also frozen by court order, were reestablished. The court order that froze the company’s financial assets Starlink aims to guarantee the payment of fines that X owes to the Brazilian Justice. As expected, both Starlink and X are challenging the decision, backed by lawyers and experts who likely appreciate Musk’s boldness as much as he does.
