Kendrick Lamar is continuing the enormous success of “Not Like Us,” diss dedicated to Drake and indicated to Grammys 2025 as Song of the Yearwith a new studio album. The 37-year-old rapper surprise-released the sixth album of his career, titled GNXwith 12 new songs, on the afternoon of this Friday, November 22, 2024.
GNX is the successor of Mr. Morale & the Big Steppersreleased on May 13, 2022 on music streaming platforms, which served as his comeback album after the release of Damn (2017), which features songs like “ELEMENT.” and “DNA.“
The album opens with “Wacced Out Murals,” which features the Spanish vocals of the mariachi singer Deyra Barreraand listen Lamar singing scathing lyrics about detractors. The vocals of Barrera return on track “Reincarnated” and at the end of the album, “Glory.”
“Luther” shows the artist singing before being accompanied by SZA on the song co-written with INK. SZA also appears on the closing track “Glory”. Jack Antonoff, Mustard, Soundwave and Kamasi Washington are credited as producers throughout the album.
Among the other tracks on the LP are “Dodger Blue”, Peekaboo” and “tv off”. Another notable track is “Heart Pt. 6”, the last chapter of the long series “The Heart” by Lamarreleased in 2010. Subsequent chapters were released as loose singles or appeared on releases such as the mixtape of Overly Dedicated or Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.
GNX comes a few months before he headlines the halftime show of Super Bowl in 2025. Listen below:
