Green Lantern: Beware My Power Producer explains how Sinestro Corps ended up in the DC movie

Of all the villains who have fought the various Green Lanterns in the DC Comics lore, probably none have made such an impact as Sinestro. Once a member of the Green Lantern Corps, the Korugarian was fired for abusing his power, and continued to embrace the yellow energy of fear and build the Yellow Lanterns, aka Sinestro Corps. Sinestro and some of his fear-obsessed allies will appear Green Lantern: Beware of my powerand I learned from supervising producer Butch Lukic how the Sinestro Corps ended up in this DC animated film.

Green Lantern: Beware of my power will mark the second time the Sinestro Corps has appeared in an animated film, as the group had already appeared in 2011 Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. During my conversation with Butch Lukic on beware of my powerI asked how the Sinestro Corps lineup was chosen, particularly noting how interesting it was that Despero was put into the mix as he is not usually affiliated with Sinestro in the comics. Luca replied:

Yeah, I think Despero’s thing could be due to Justice League Adventures, we did a Despero story with John Stewart and the Green Lantern Corps. Aside from that, he was one of our character designers; when he read the script, he asked if instead of just being a pack of bounty hunters, we could play some of these characters as Sinestro’s henchmen. Sometimes I thought, “Well, it’s pretty hard because some of these guys are as powerful as Sinestro,” but if there’s a way to include these guys visually so we can animate them, let’s do it.

The story of Despero that Butch Lukic refers to is the Justice League “Heart and Minds,” in two parts, which saw Keith David’s version of the character use Py’tar’s flame to defeat several Green Lanterns. Until Green Lantern: Beware of my powerHowever, the inclusion of the Sinestro Corps was usually due to the fact that one of the film’s character designers wanted to use these agents of fear instead of letting Sinestro command generic bounty hunters. Hey, if the villain needs henchmen to carry out his will, why not equip them with yellow power rings?

Following the same continuity as Superman: the man of tomorrow, Society of Justice: World War II Yes Batman: The long Halloween (and not to be confused with the universe of DC animated films), Green Lantern: Beware of my power stars black adamAldis Hodge as John Stewart, a recently released Marine sniper who suddenly finds himself receiving a ring of power from Green Lantern. Shortly thereafter, John must venture into the midst of a war between Rann and Thanagar involving the Sinestro Corps. beware of my powerThe cast also includes Jimmi Simpson as Green Arrow, Jamie Gray Hyder as Hawkgirl, Brian Bloom as Adam Strange and Rick D. Wasserman as Sinestro. Behind the scenes, Jeff Wamester directed and John Semper and Ernie Altbacker wrote the script.

Green Lantern: Beware of my power will premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 22 at 6:30 PM PT in Ballroom 20, and then stream on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Digital on Tuesday, July 26 via Warner Bros.
