Bassist suggests the band ‘could do something’, but decision depends on singer

The bassist of Aerosmith, Tom Hamiltoncommented on the future of the band and the state of health of Steve Tylerwho is recovering after a serious injury to his vocal cords during a concert in September 2023. According to Hamilton, the singer is progressing well in his healing process, but any decision about the group’s future will depend solely on Tyler.

“Steven is doing really well with his recovery, but it happens at his own pace.”said Hamilton in an interview with WBUR radio, in Boston.

Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big what if. The last thing I want to do is pressure Steven in that direction. If we do something, it will be on his initiative.

In a previous interview, the bassist was asked how hopeful he is, on a scale of one to 10, that the band will reunite. “On the hope scale, I’m somewhere between seven and nine. We won’t be doing any touring from now on, but I will always be hopeful that other types of opportunities will arise.”he said to AARP .

“This isn’t the first time dark clouds have appeared on our horizon — and somehow the sun has managed to come out. Time and hope are all we have at the moment.”he added.

Aerosmith’s last show took place in September 2023, at the UBS Arena, in New York, during their farewell tour Peace Out. At the time, no one – not even the band – knew that this would be the last show. Following Tyler’s injury, the remaining shows on the tour were cancelled, and the band announced the end of their live performances.

After the announcement, several personalities expressed sadness at the end of the band’s tours. Brian Mayfrom Queen, stated that the news “brought tears to his eyes”, while Sammy Hagar classified retirement as “a great loss”.

No plans for homes or replacements

Hamilton, who had already discarded the idea of a residency in Las Vegas, also commented on the possibility of continuing the band with another singer: “I can’t imagine Aerosmith with a new singer. We all have music in our future, but it will manifest itself in ways we haven’t yet planned.”

Currently, the bassist has dedicated himself to a new project called Close Enemieswhich includes members such as drummer TonyBrockthe vocalist Chasen Hampton and the guitarists Peter Stroud and Trace Foster. The band is already preparing new songs and planning future shows.

Hamilton concluded by saying that, although Aerosmith will not return to the stage, he remains hopeful for new opportunities: “This isn’t the first time dark clouds have appeared on our horizon – and somehow the sun always reappears. Time and hope are all we have right now.”
