Actor said acting amid COVID has affected ‘every actor for two years’ said ‘there’s nothing interesting’ about new scripts
Looking at a career Robert Pattinsonfull of successes in film, it’s hard to imagine the actor ever being discouraged from acting. In a conversation with Vanity Fairthe star of Mickey Mouse 17 (2025), confessed that he thought he would stop acting and that cinema was dead.
A complicated period faced by Hollywood with the Covid-19 pandemic and two major workers’ strikes led the actor to question himself: “It’s strange because in recent years for the film industry, starting with Covid and then with the strikes, everyone was constantly saying it: cinema was dying, and quite convincingly,” he said. Pattinson. “I was literally almost done. In fact, it started to get a little scary.”
What changed the British actor’s mind was “a wave of ambitious films” like The brutalist (2024), directed by PattinsonBrady Corbetwith whom he has already worked on the feature film The childhood of a leader (2015), the director’s debut film.
“I feel like the things that will be pointed out to the Oscar This year is going to be really interesting and it seems like suddenly there is a new group of directors who also excite the audiences,” the actor said.
