Two and a half years after having announced the beginning of the treatment of cancer in the intestine that caused the confusion in the country, the singer, the actress, the business woman and the presenter Black Gil50, died on Sunday 20, in New York, in the United States, due to complications due to the disease.
From January 2023, when he revealed the beginning of the treatment, he electrified the country exposed transparently the fight against the disease through the procedures performed in Brazil and the United States, which included surgical interventions, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.
With over two career decades in music from the first six albums, 2003, Preta Gil is the daughter of Gilberto Gil, grandson of Caetano Veloso and children sons of Gal Costa. He was also an actress of soap opera and series, presented TV programs and recorded a career as an entrepreneur.

The history of the disease
Preta announced that she had intestinal cancer, also called colon cancer in January 2023. He discovered the disease after tests that diagnosed the presence of a tumor adenocarcinoma in the final part of the organ.
The first phase of the treatment was performed with surgery and radiotherapy sessions. The artist also had to undergo a total abdominal abdominal system, a procedure that consists in removing the uterus and an amputation of the rectum.

In December, Prete announced that he would have a new surgery to remove tumors. First, however, the singer went to the United States to consult the doctors there. It was a recommendation of Brazilian doctors who accompanied his case. The goal was to align a new postoperative treatment, since the chemotherapy applied so far had not had the expected effect.
Preta underwent surgery on December 19th. The procedure lasted about 18 hours and successfully exceeded, according to the first information released at that moment. Black spent 10 days in intensive care of the Libanese Syrian hospital. When he went to the room, he received visits from friends and relatives and also to communicate through his profile on social networks. The turn passed from 2024 to 2025 accompanied by his father. In a video, Preta explained to his followers his new conditions and how the adaptation process would be. “It was a much bigger challenge, every day. I had to be away to focus on myself, to get the good,” he said at that moment. According to her, at that time, the exams showed that she was improving.
On February 7, Preta suffered a new surgical procedure, this time to correct the interruption of the suture points in one of the previous surgical interventions.
Also hospitalized, during the recovery process, Preta questioned cancer and spreading information on the objective of reducing the stigma on the disease.
“A very important day for us to speak and disseminate information, which is the most important. One of the great problems we face in the fight against cancer is the stigma. This stigma is something that has been created and the generation spent in generation, and until today they do not take care, do not seek help and do not request to prejudice the disease.”
He warned that stigmas contribute to several people to lose the fight against the disease, also blaming the late diagnosis. “We are trivializing things. At the beginning I did it alone, when I started having the first symptoms,” he said. “I was still lucky, in my first diagnosis, to have early treatment, and even now,” he said.
The unloading of the Lebanese Syrian hospital took place on February 11, after 55 days. Black then went to his house in San Paolo to continue recovery and surgical rehabilitation.
After a period at home, Preta was released by the doctors to spend the carnival at the beginning of March in Salvador. He was at the Express Camarote 2222, led by his father, Gilberto Gil.
