I spoke to Lepore during the course of the series, during which she explained that James Gunn provided invaluable guidance throughout the creative process:
Yes, I mean, it was really helpful in the process. We had a few meetings during production, one of the first was, you know, one where we sat down and talked about ‘Well who is this character’, you know, that he created, and just to make sure I could make it. justice to this character. And I could hear from his mouth describing who he is, you know, who Groot is as a character. So it was very, very educational and something that I carried with me, I had it in my head the whole time we were writing.
