British musician, former Pink Floyd, criticizes the Norwegian Committee’s choice to award the Venezuelan activist, opponent of Nicolás Maduro
The musician Roger WatersformerPink Floydposted a video on social media harshly criticizing the fact that the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 has been given to Maria Corina Machado. The Venezuelan activist is an opponent of Nicolás Maduro.
According to the British artist, the Norwegian Committee committed a “absurd” by choosing María Corina and assigning her a “tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela”as well as “his fight for a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”.
Waters joked and said, quoting the Swede Alfred Nobelcreator of the Nobel Prize:
“María Corina Machado, the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Committee has decided to give you the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Nobel must be turning in his grave.”
The British musician also made a mention of donald trumppresident of United States constantly criticized by him. Waters said:
“The award could also have been given to Donald Trump. It’s no less absurd. Start behaving like human beings. Start behaving as if you have an IQ above room temperature. María Corina Machado is an idiot. She has nothing to do with peace.”
The artist added, with an allegation again involving Trump:
“I know you don’t care about peace either. You gave the prize to Henry Kissinger (former US Secretary). You were considering giving the award to Donald Trump. This has nothing to do with peace.”
Roger concluded the video by saying:
“Peace is about expressing truth and love to our brothers and sisters around the world. And about supporting the idea of universal and equal human rights.”

Roger Waters and Nicolás Maduro
Historically, Roger Waters is a supporter of Nicolás Maduro. The musician was in favor of another re-election of the Venezuelan president in 2024.
On the occasion, he also recorded a video on his networks and said that opponents such as María Corina and Edmundo Urrutia they are “US puppets”. Waters called on the Venezuelan people to vote for Maduro (via Brazil in fact):
“Revolutions are difficult, the Bolivarian Revolution is difficult, but it is successful. The message for me to be sending this message to you today is for you to vote for President Maduro in the elections on the 28th. Why? Because Venezuela belongs to you, the people of Venezuela.”
Still regarding María Corina Machado’s award, Waters is not alone. Some leaders were surprised by the fact that she won the Nobel Peace Prize (via Brazil Agency).
Claudia Sheinbaumpresident of Mexico; the Brazilian economist Paulo Nogueira Batista Jr.former director of IMF; and the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz Bermúdezcriticized the Nobel Peace Prize given to María Corina.
Celson Amorimspecial advisor to the Presidency of the Republic, also questioned and said that the Nobel Prize “prioritized politics over peace”.
