Popular anime franchises One Piece and Detective Conan have unveiled an unexpected crossover with classic Hollywood movies to mark the 25th anniversary of Universal Studios Japan. The special collaboration places famous Japanese animated characters into iconic film settings created by American cinema studios.
In the One Piece crossover, series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy enters the prehistoric universe of Jurassic Park. Promotional artwork shows the piratical captain standing alongside a massive Tyrannosaurus Rex from the famous dinosaur franchise.
Meanwhile, Detective Conan protagonist Conan Edogawa travels to the world of Back to the Future. The crossover places the young investigator inside the sci-fi saga originally starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as time-traveling duo Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
One Piece, created by manga artist Eiichiro Oda, is one of the longest-running animated series in television history. Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed, has similarly maintained decades of popularity since its creation by Gosho Aoyama.
Universal Studios Japan has released promotional images for both crossovers to highlight the upcoming resort celebration. However, official merchandise associated with the campaign is not yet available for purchase.
Merchandise launch and park products
Universal Studios Japan will begin selling themed merchandise inspired by the crossovers on September 9. The upcoming product line includes t-shirts, posters, tote bags, and collectible figures.
The release marks the latest effort by the Osaka resort to incorporate Japanese animation into its commercial offerings. Over recent years, the park has leaned heavily into anime properties to attract international and domestic visitors.
Expanding anime attractions in Osaka
Universal Studios Japan has established itself as a major destination for anime fans through past partnerships with hit series such as Attack on Titan, Sailor Moon, and Jujutsu Kaisen. Those popular titles have previously featured dedicated rides, 4D attractions, and themed dining experiences at the resort.
One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen have both featured in various past initiatives across the resort. Other global properties have seen even broader integration, with Pokémon expanding into major parade appearances and park attractions.
The theme park plans to continue its focus on Japanese animation over the coming months. As part of its upcoming Halloween Horror Nights event, Universal Studios Japan is preparing a dedicated experience based on the dark fantasy series Chainsaw Man.
Additionally, the horror character Tomie, created by acclaimed manga author Junji Ito, will take a leading role in the park's Halloween festivities.
