Robert Pattinson Auditions for Next James Bond Film

Robert Pattinson has auditioned to play James Bond in the next film about the British secret agent, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Screen tests for the coveted role took place on October 24, with the American trade publication reporting that Pattinson is among a select group of actors who have tested for the part.

Pattinson is competing against fellow British actors Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, and Josh O'Connor to take over as Agent 007. The outlet cited an unnamed source confirming Pattinson's participation in the screen tests.

Casting the next James Bond

The casting search for the new James Bond officially started in May 2026. Speculation surrounding the next iteration of the character has grown since September, when British actor Gary Oldman claimed that the role had already been cast. Oldman voiced his support for his Slow Horses co-star Lowden, expressing hope that Lowden would land the part.

Studio Amazon MGM has remained silent regarding the production. The company did not confirm that Lowden would portray Bond and refused to discuss casting decisions publicly.

The audition process is being overseen by Nina Gold, the Oscar nominated casting director renowned for her work on the television series Game of Thrones, five Star Wars films, and numerous other major cinematic projects.

Creative team and franchise history

Canadian director Denis Villeneuve, best known for helming the Dune films, is set to direct the upcoming production. The screenplay is being written by Steven Knight, the British writer who created the popular television series Peaky Blinders.

Pattinson first achieved worldwide fame playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight film franchise before earning acclaim in independent films and starring as Bruce Wayne in The Batman. His competitors have similarly prominent track records, with Lowden starring in the spy thriller Slow Horses, Turner appearing in major film and television productions, and O'Connor earning praise for roles in film and television drama.

The new film will mark the first entry in the long running spy franchise since Daniel Craig concluded his five film tenure as the iconic secret agent. Craig stepped down from the role following the release of No Time to Die in 2021.
