The three children of Robin Williams have reactivated the late comedian's Instagram account in a bid to keep his legacy alive and provide an authentic alternative to unauthorized artificial intelligence content.

Zak, 43, Zelda, 37, and Cody Williams, 34, released a joint statement on the platform on Monday outlining their project to maintain their father's online presence, sharing how they plan to keep his unique talent and humor alive.

"As we recognize what would be our Dad's 75th year, we're grateful to see new generations discovering his work while longtime fans continue to celebrate the joy he brought into their lives," the siblings said.

"As technology evolves, we want this to be a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care," they said, adding that he "continues to inspire us and delight people all over the world."

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Zelda Williams for further comment.

Fighting artificial intelligence

Later on Monday, Zelda posted an additional statement addressing the decision, apologizing to anyone who found the sudden reactivation of the "Mork and Mindy" star's account "triggering."

"Believe me, I know it's a little strange," she wrote. "But making that space into one where people can find authentic clips and photos of him is one of the best ways we've now found to fight back against rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness on here."

Zelda has previously been outspoken against the use of artificial intelligence to recreate her father's likeness. In October 2025, she took to Instagram Stories to request that followers refrain from sending her fabricated clips.

"Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad," she said at the time. "Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, I'll restrict and move on."

"But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop," she added. "It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want."

Zelda said that "to watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,' just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening."

"You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it," she said. "Gross."

Honoring his 75th birthday

The reactivation of the account follows tributes posted by Zelda and Zak last month to mark what would have been their father's 75th birthday on July 21.

"Happy 75th womb evacuation anniversary Poppo!" Zelda posted on the platform. "Not sure what 75 would've looked like on you."

"Probably the same loud socks and cool jackets," she wrote. "Maybe some more crazy glasses as your eyesight got worse. Grayer, but no less hairy."

"Wish we could talk about the world and joke about my haunted pups," she continued. "Bet your laugh would be the same. You are loved beyond measure and missed daily. Happy 75th Poppo."

Zak is the actor's son from his first marriage, while Zelda and Cody are from his second marriage to Marsha Garces. The family has often been pictured together, including at an event in New York City in 2004. More recently, Zak and Zelda were pictured together in 2021, and Cody in 2017.

In his own birthday tribute, Zak highlighted his father's compassion.

"Happy 75th Dad! Today I'm remembering your weirdness and your extraordinary capacity to love," Zak wrote.

"I remember those wrinkles in the corners of your eyes, the kind you get from a lifetime of smiling. I remember your unending need to see this world free of human and animal suffering."

He encouraged fans to honor his father through positive actions: "For those out there who'd like to celebrate with me, go do something kind for someone. Make someone laugh. Put a little more good into the world. Love you forever."

Legacy and passing

Williams took his own life on August 11, 2014, at his home in the San Francisco area. He was 63 years old.

It was subsequently revealed that the actor had been dealing with anxiety and depression. He had also been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the months before his death, and his autopsy showed he was suffering from Lewy body disease, a form of crippling dementia.
