Shakira will perform 12 concerts in Madrid at a purpose-built stadium set for completion on September 6, city officials announced.
The new venue, named Estadio Shakira, will host the European residency that concludes her global Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. Construction work began just over a week ago, and completion on September 6 will provide ample time for technical adjustments and rehearsals before opening night on September 18.
According to information released by Madrid City Council, the venue will be fully prepared well ahead of the scheduled shows. Organizers planned the September 6 finish date specifically to allow technical crews to test lighting, acoustics, and staging before welcoming fans.
Custom Stadium Design and Amenities
The project involves constructing an entire entertainment complex tailored specifically to the artist's vision. Beyond the main stage and seating, the site will feature dedicated dining areas, fair trade commercial spaces, and recreational zones designed for children.
Shakira was directly involved in planning and shaping the venue layout. Organizers noted that the site is designed to offer a complete visitor experience that extends beyond the live show, allowing families and concertgoers to spend time on the grounds before and after the performance.
The singer, born in Barranquilla, Colombia, has built a global career spanning three decades as one of the most prominent figures in Latin pop music. The custom facility in the Spanish capital reflects the scale of her current world tour, which has seen commercial success across the Americas.
Concert Schedule and Extra Dates
The residency will run across 12 select dates in September and October. The initial series of performances will take place on September 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27. The residency will then continue with a second block of shows scheduled for October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11.
Organizers expanded the schedule by adding extra dates as ticket demand grew. The artist intended to extend the run so that every fan wishing to attend would have an opportunity to secure a seat.
Television Interview and Setlist Revisions
During a video call appearance on the Spanish television show La Revuelta in early July, Shakira shared details regarding her plans for the Madrid residency. She explained that she intended to pull out all the stops and make every possible effort to deliver an experience that went far beyond a standard concert.
She described Madrid as one of the most incredible cities in Europe and stated that she selected the Spanish capital to host the final leg of her world tour. She also highlighted her strong emotional connection to Spain, noting that it is the country where her two children were born.
As part of the residency, Shakira confirmed that she would revise her standard setlist. Among the planned changes is the inclusion of Te dejo Madrid, a track she originally released in 2002 as a tribute to the city. She noted that selecting the final list of songs presented a challenge because of the extensive catalog of hit singles she has produced over the past 30 years.
