Singer Shawn Mendes has confirmed his relationship with Brazilian model and actress Bruna Marquezine in a sentimental Instagram birthday post after about eight months of dating. The 27-year-old musician made their romance official on Tuesday as he shared a sweet tribute to celebrate Marquezine turning 31.
The pair were first romantically linked in December 2025 after being spotted spending time together in her home country of Brazil. In the caption of his birthday post, Mendes wished her a happy birthday in Portuguese, writing "Feliz aniversário my baby" alongside emojis of an angel wing and a red heart.
Mendes gushed about how Marquezine had changed his life before publicly declaring his love for her. "You are a light and a mãe in every room you walk into," he wrote.
The couple made their relationship Instagram official following about eight months of dating.
The 27-year-old singer shared the sentimental message in celebration of Marquezine turning 31, after the pair were previously pictured together in November 2025.
"Not to be tooooo sappy but you've truly changed my life and I am so so grateful for you," Mendes added in the caption. He concluded the message by stating that he loves her "so, so, so much."
Past Relationships
Prior to his relationship with Marquezine, Mendes was romantically linked to Hailey Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter and Dr. Jocelyne Miranda. His most famous and public relationship was with singer Camila Cabello.
Mendes and Cabello, who collaborated on their hit song Señorita, were in an on-and-off relationship for over two years before calling it quits in 2021. The former couple, pictured together in 2021, later briefly rekindled their romance at Coachella in 2023.
The couple were first rumored to be dating in December 2025 when they were seen together in Brazil, and they were later pictured together in March.
In his birthday surprise post caption, Mendes shared his sentimental message in Portuguese to celebrate her birthday.
Addressing Sexuality Rumors
Despite only ever dating women publicly, Mendes has long been the subject of rumors about his sexuality, which he addressed at a concert in 2024. While discussing his track The Mountain, which includes the lyrics "You can say I like girls or boys / Whatever fits your mold", he spoke directly to the crowd about the speculation.
"Since I was really young, there's been this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it for so long," Mendes told the audience. "I think it's kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it's so hard to just put into boxes."
Prior to his romance with Marquezine, Mendes was in an on-again, off-again relationship with Camila Cabello for over two years.
"It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me, something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover, and still have yet to discover," he continued.
"The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I'm just figuring it out like everyone. I don't really know sometimes, and I know other times. And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that," Mendes said.
Mendes explained that by speaking publicly about the speculation, he was making an effort "to be really brave" and "just allow [himself] to be a human and feel things - and that's all I really want to say about that for now."
