Australian actress Simmone Jade Mackinnon has issued an urgent public plea following the disappearance of her 51-year-old sister, Kym Mackinnon, in Queensland.
Kym Mackinnon was last seen at Guanaba Road at Tamborine Mountain, a hinterland locality situated in the Scenic Rim region of southeastern Queensland, though authorities and family members note it remains unclear how long she has been missing.
Police and family members have issued a detailed physical description of Kym, stating that she is 165 centimetres tall and of a very slim build, with dark brown eyes and dark brown hair.
Simmone, 53, took to her official Instagram page this week to appeal directly to her followers for assistance in locating her sister. Captioning a photo of Kym, she wrote, "Have you seen my sister?" before urging members of the public to contact Policelink, the non-emergency contact service operated by the Queensland Police Service.
The actress made a direct call to residents across the state, writing: "Please share this post ESPECIALLY if you are in Queensland."
When concerned social media users asked for additional details in the comments section of the post, Simmone explained that she was restricted in what she could share due to the active police investigation.
"The police will release their official statement very soon," she replied to one follower. "I don't want to release information before it's been triple checked by them."
Police appeal for information
Simmone requested that anyone with relevant information regarding her sister's whereabouts contact Queensland Police on 131 444 and quote case file number QP2601680614.
The social media appeal prompted a wave of supportive messages from fans, friends, and industry colleagues, including her former McLeod's Daughters co-star Rodger Corser.
Corser expressed his sympathy in the comments, writing: "Dear Simmy, can only imagine how you're feeling right now. Let's get her found. Much love, Sharing now."
Simmone responded to Corser's message of solidarity, writing: "Thank you so much buddy, we really appreciate it."
Mackinnon is best known to television audiences for her role as Stevie Hall on the popular Australian drama series McLeod's Daughters, a show following two sisters operating a rural cattle station. She starred in the production between 2003 and 2009, earning a nomination for the Gold Logie Award, the highest accolade in Australian television.
Before joining the cast of McLeod's Daughters, the Gold Logie-nominated star gained international prominence on the American action drama series Baywatch Hawaii, where she portrayed the character Allie Reese between 1999 and 2000.
Tragic loss of co-star Rachael Carpani
The search for her missing sister follows a period of deep personal grief for the Australian actress, who suffered the loss of her former McLeod's Daughters co-star Rachael Carpani late last year.
Carpani passed away on December 7, 2025, following what was officially described as a long battle with chronic illness.
Earlier this month, Simmone shared a moving social media tribute to mark what would have been Carpani's 46th birthday, accompanying video footage of her late friend with emotional words.
"This morning I whispered to the winds of the southern skies... 'Take my love and birthday wishes to my friend, who resides up there. Wrap yourself around her, give her a birthday hug from me,'" she captioned the post.
She concluded the birthday tribute by writing: "Happy heavenly birthday Carpo… sure do miss you."
