Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first trailer for Ramayana: Part 1, an adaptation of the ancient Indian epic about Prince Rama, set for a worldwide theatrical release on November 8.
The film follows Prince Rama, revered in Hinduism as an earthly incarnation of the god Vishnu. After his stepmother schemes against him, Rama leaves his home and retreats to the forest with his wife Sita and his loyal brother. There, the demon Ravana abducts Sita, forcing Rama to seek the help of forest allies to rescue her.
The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sunny Deol, Kajal Aggarwal, and Lara Datta. Nitesh Tiwari, director of the 2016 family drama Dangal, helmed the project.
Two Oscar winners contributed to the soundtrack: Interstellar composer Hans Zimmer and Slumdog Millionaire composer A.R. Rahman. The IMAX-format production cost $500 million to make.
