Today Extra presenter Sylvia Jeffreys and her husband Peter Stefanovic are expecting their third child, a baby girl, the couple announced on Sunday morning.
The Australian television personalities, who already share sons Oscar, six, and Henry, five, revealed on social media that they are delighted to welcome a daughter after having two boys.
Jeffreys, 40, and News24 presenter Stefanovic, 44, celebrated the announcement by sharing a family photograph with their two sons.
"Oh baby... number 3 is on the way and the boys are already taking their big bro duties seriously. Swipe for the moment Oscar told us it's a GIRL!" Jeffreys wrote on social media.
"We hope she digs footy merch, because there'll be a lot of hand-me-downs. Jump on board, baby girl. It's fun here."
Messages of Congratulation
Several high-profile Australian television colleagues quickly offered their well wishes in the comments section.
"Amazing news Sylvia and Pete," wrote fellow Channel Nine presenter Samantha Armytage.
"Yesss! Future netball mum incoming! This has made my day. So much love to you and Pete and the boys," added Leila McKinnon.
Lauren Tomasi also commented: "Oh my gosh what amazing news!!!! Congrats you guys."
Family and Career Context
Jeffreys and Stefanovic tied the knot at the Ooralba Estate in Kangaroo Valley on April 1, 2017. They welcomed their first son, Oscar, in February 2020, and Jeffreys announced her second pregnancy eight months later.
Jeffreys has recently been filling in as co-host on Channel Nine's morning program Today while current presenter Sarah Abo is on maternity leave. She is temporarily manning the desk alongside Tom Steinfort.
Changes at the Today Show
The pregnancy announcement comes as Channel Nine considers permanent hosting changes for Today following a 10 per cent ratings boost during a trial stint with Steinfort, 41, and Armytage, 49.
The ratings increase saw an additional 60,000 viewers tune in to the breakfast television show. According to The Australian, network executives are now eyeing Steinfort and Armytage for permanent appointments.
Channel Nine has been trialling new hosts since June when Karl Stefanovic, who is Peter Stefanovic's brother and Jeffreys's brother-in-law, left the show following fallout from a controversial interview with British far-right activist Tommy Robinson on his podcast.
Viewers will have to wait until August 24 for Armytage to take up her position on the broadcast, as she is currently in Thailand on business. Today Extra co-host Jeffreys will continue manning the desk alongside Steinfort until then.
