AMC Global Media and Yodo1 Games have agreed a deal to bring The Walking Dead and other entertainment franchises to Chinese mobile video game developers.

The Walking Dead mobile games planned in new AMC China deal

AMC Global Media has partnered with publisher Yodo1 Games to develop new mobile video games based on The Walking Dead with Chinese studios. The agreement covers several of the American broadcaster's intellectual properties, with the long running zombie franchise serving as the centrepiece for upcoming smartphone and tablet adaptations.

Under the terms of the agreement, Yodo1 Games will act as the strategic partner overseeing publishing, technical integration, and development opportunities in China. The company will actively connect Chinese studios with AMC licenses to create original games designed primarily for handheld platforms.

AMC stated that the partnership aims to capitalise on the rapid expansion of the Chinese gaming industry. The collaboration will allow Chinese development teams to introduce fresh concepts and gameplay mechanics to established Western entertainment brands.

Global release plans for new titles

Projects created through the initiative are intended to reach an international audience after debuting in China. AMC indicated that games developed under the partnership could be released worldwide, expanding the franchise's global digital presence.

AMC has not yet announced specific game titles, genre details, or release dates for the new projects. The company has also withheld the names of the individual development studios selected to build the games.

The broadcaster made clear that the partnership represents a concerted push to grow its gaming footprint in Asia, with mobile devices remaining the priority for future interactive adaptations.

History of The Walking Dead video games

The Walking Dead has maintained a prominent presence in the video game sector across PC, console, and mobile platforms since the comic book's early success. The property was created by writer Robert Kirkman, who launched the zombie comic book series alongside artist Tony Moore in 2003.

Telltale Games produced one of the franchise's most influential adaptations with its 2012 narrative adventure series, which debuted on consoles and computers before expanding to smartphones. More recently, the franchise launched The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival, an interactive title focused on the Saviors era.

The franchise has also generated multiple standalone mobile releases over the past decade. These include titles such as The Walking Dead: Survivors, The Walking Dead: No Man's Land, The Walking Dead: All-Stars, and The Walking Dead: Road to Survival.

International development across mobile studios

Previous mobile instalments in the franchise have relied on development partners located in several countries. Past productions have involved studios based in China, Finland, South Korea, and Canada, reflecting the property's international production model.

China currently represents one of the largest mobile gaming markets in the world, with millions of players accessing games through Android and iOS devices. Partnering with domestic Chinese studios provides Western media companies with direct access to experienced mobile developers skilled in local distribution and game operations.

Yodo1 Games has specialised in helping Western entertainment brands and game creators navigate the Chinese regulatory and commercial landscape. The publisher will manage developer submissions and coordinate production schedules as AMC prepares to unveil its initial slate of mobile releases.
