Russian television channel Poyekhali! has launched a new animated series called "Tales of the Peoples of Russia," adapting old legends and folklore from different peoples of the country, its press service said.
The channel's press service said the special project marks 2026, which Russian President Vladimir Putin declared the Year of Unity of Russia's Peoples. It described the episodes as careful adaptations of ancient legends and folklore from various peoples across the country, created for family viewing.
First episode based on Nganasan folklore
The series opens with a Nganasan tale called "The Girl and the Moon." The Nganasans are one of the oldest indigenous peoples of the Russian Far North, according to the press service.
The press service noted that Nganasan culture developed amid the tundra, long polar winters and a nomadic way of life, and that their legends reflect a belief in an unbreakable bond between humans and nature.
