Ukrainian meme rapper MC Zipulya drafted into armed forces

MC Zipulya, the Ukrainian rapper and video blogger whose short track spawned the viral “meow-meow-meow” internet meme, has been mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to a post on his Instagram page.

The post identified Zipulya by his real name, Andriy Posysayev, and said the mobilization was unlawful. It said he passed his military medical examination in five minutes and was declared fit for service, despite having attended a boarding school for children with developmental delays. The post added that he had been unable to obtain a disability status or formal diagnosis, and that he was no longer in Kyiv.

Before his viral fame, Posysayev was already releasing music, but the track “Nu nychoho strashnoho” brought him mass popularity. He continued producing new work and remained a prominent figure in Ukraine’s internet rap scene.

The phrase “meow-meow-meow” became a standalone meme expression, recognized even by people unfamiliar with its creator.
