For several months, the creator of Rocky Balboa has been attacking the producer of the franchise Irwin Winkler on social networks. In 2019, Sly provided variety they have no rights to the saga, before putting a layer of it on Instagram three years later this past July:
While he (Irwin Winkler) has control of Rocky for 47 years, and now Creed, I would really like to recoup some of what’s left of my rights, and that’s before I hand it all over exclusively to his children. I think that would be an honest gesture from a 93-year-old gentleman, wouldn’t it? It’s a painful subject that eats my soul, because I want to leave something of Rocky for my children.
In the process, Sylvester Stallone criticized the spin-off Dracoa project he described as “heartbreaking”, apologizing to fans and stating that he never wanted “the characters of Rocky be exploited by these parasites”. Last November, the actor appeared in the series Tula King returned to the reasons for his absence in Creed IIIdeclaring to Hollywood Reporters :
It’s a deplorable situation. I imagine what this saga could have been like. They took a completely different direction than I would have taken. It’s a different philosophy. That of Irwin Winkler and Michael B. Jordan. I wish them good luck again.
