Janelle Monáe has been named by the City of West Hollywood as the iconic WeHo Pride Marshal, while JoJo Siwa is the icon of the next generation of WeHo Pride.
Monae honored as a Grammy-nominated singer, author and singer hidden figures The actor continues to inspire others with his art and advocacy. Having become a figure of colored stone, Monet won the 2019 GLAAD Media Award for his musical contribution.
Siva, dancer, singer and YouTuber, 19, responded to fans on social media and was nominated in 2020 Time The magazine’s 100 most influential people.
WeHo Pride Weekend takes place June 3-5 in and around West Hollywood Park and includes a free street performance featuring a variety of groups from the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ and BIPOC women and non-binary musicians will perform on stage, along with comedians, poets and activists. The weekend will also feature OUTLOUD: Raising Voices, a JJLA concert series at West Hollywood Park.
The first WeHo Pride Parade, which celebrates the vast history of the LGBTQ movement and showcases its diversity, will take place on June 5. The festivities will begin at 12 noon on Crescent Heights Boulevard and continue along Santa Monica Boulevard to the city’s rainbow precinct. Historic LGBTQ bars, clubs, restaurants and shops.
“The City of West Hollywood is excited to launch #WeHoPride to our community this year,” said West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister, “and our incredible icons, Janelle Monáe and JoJo Siwa, truly reflect the core values of our city. He added that pride measures give the LGBTQ community a “place to stand up for equality” as well as a place to celebrate who they are and exactly who they should be.
“At this time in history, when women’s rights and LGBTQ rights are under attack, our icons are a proud and shining beacon and hope for a better tomorrow,” continued Meister. “West Hollywood has been the biggest pride party in Southern California for nearly four decades. We look forward to continuing that tradition for WeHo Pride this year.”
