Giancarlo Esposito dissects Kim’s flashback in Better Call Saul season 6
Giancarlo Espositoone of the main actors in Better Call Saul (in addition to working as a director on the series), detailed flashbacks to Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) in “Ax and Grind,” sixth episode of the 6th and final season. It is worth remembering that the interpreter of Gus Fring in the spin-off of breaking bad directed the chapter.
In an interview with Variety, Esposito discussed the chapter in question, which was very focused on Kimand started with a flashback of the character stealing a pair of earrings as a child – and ended with a “moment of disgrace” for her, according to the Danish actor and director.
“We all have moments that we remember with our parents. We remember how it affected us in a negative or positive way. This moment, for me, is a reflection of the whole life of Kim and who she really becomes,” he said. “I intrinsically believe how Kim is a good person and probably has deeper advocacy skills than Jimmy [interpretado por Bob Odenkirk]. And yet she falls in love with the afterlife; for how long, we don’t know.”
“On the scene [do flashback], you see some connections throughout the episode if you watch closely. Earrings are important because Kim he wears the same earrings basically his whole life,” the star continued. “You see them again at the vet’s office; if you notice, they are the same earrings. They meant something to her.”
Then, Giancarlo Esposito explained how the character “was content to be scolded by her mother for doing something wrong” and needed that guidance from an important figure. Therefore Kim was impressed when the mother says, “Look what I brought you,” while delivering the stolen product.
It was all a ruse. This is heartbreaking. I think that breaks her in a way that relates to the decision she makes at the end of the episode.
