Spider-Man through the Spider-Verse : the return of Miles Morales
If Peter Parker is the face of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (played by Tom Holland), he is however not the only weaver of the Marvel universe. The test with the saga of Spider verselaunched in 2018 with Spider-Man: New Generation. The animated film features another human spider: Miles Morales.
Coming from Earth-1610 (an alternative Earth to Earth-616, which is that of the MCU), Miles Morales appears for the first time in 2011 under the pen of Brian M Bendis, in the universe Last. Quickly, the character gains popularity and becomes a central protagonist of the comics. But it is thanks to its first adaptation in 2018, Miles Morales is becoming known to the general public.

Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman have produced with this film an ambitious, exciting and extremely faithful work to the comics. The visual style of Spider-Man: New Generation it has also influenced other recent anime productionsFrom Puss in boots 2 to the excellent series Arcane. Inevitably, the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, is highly anticipated. For the occasion, the original trio is replaced in the production by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin Thompson. But don’t worry, Phil Lord and Chris Millerwho have already taken care of the production and writing of the first part, they are back in this sequel. Which bring a certain form of serenity around this company.
A sequel worthy of its predecessor
without surprise, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse it is a little gem that has nothing to envy to its older brother. From the initial sequence, focused on Spider-Gwen, the explosive recipe of the first part returns. The public finds the tasty cocktails action, emotion and comic book references that made all the flavor of the first opus. Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin Thompson deliver an extremely generous workcolorful, with daunting animation, which has gone up a notch from the previous part.
It’s very simple, let’s take full eyes for 2h20. Great visual waterfall, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse offers aesthetic flights of excellent workmanship and a wide variety. Enhanced by a pop and rap soundtrack in line with the previous chapter, and by an impressive fluidity in the movements. Flavor explosionreal sound and visual enjoyment, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has raised its ambitions on this point and keeps all its promises.
A unique tribute to comics
As in the first film, this sequel fully captures the essence and how the world of comics works. A true fan movie for fans, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is often aimed at serious readers of comics. A real museum ofEaster eggsthe feature constantly seeks knowledge of its audiencethe literary culture of his audience, and places here and there references that are more or less difficult to locate or understand.

The quintessence of this fan service, incidentally never free, comes when Miles Morales finds himself on the planet of Spider-man 2099 (voiced by Oscar Isaac), populated by countless weavers. It would be necessary to freeze the images to enjoy the dozens of winks on offer (sometimes in a single shot) during this exciting segment. A fascinating part that develops the multiverse theme.
The MCU better watch out, as long as the license of the Spider verse surpasses in all respects the similar productions of Kevin Feige (i.e Spider-Man: There’s no way back home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, What if…? OR Loki). We thus find remarkable appearances that we will not reveal here, but which should please both fans of the Spider-Man universe and the general public.
Emotion always at the center of the story
Besides being a visual attraction with impressive action scenes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse don’t forget either emotional springs. As in the first work, this new one Spiderman puts its hero and his entourage at the center of the story. Much more than the visual dimension, what makes the soul of this saga is Miles Morales and his relatives. Once again, the feature film deals with the relationship of its hero with his parents. With great sensitivity, the work questions the notion of parenthood.
The film develops the pressure of becoming a parent. Both through the progenitors of Miles Morales, but also thanks to the Peter Parker of the first film, recently became a father. The opportunity for the production to deliver some touching moments.

The themes therefore evolve a bit compared to the previous chapter. Miles is no longer a child learning from his mentor, but a young adult who wants to prove himself. The audience is immersed a darker, more mature storyline, in which an intimate narrative around the family and specific cosmic tribulations of the superheroic universe are opposed. Or how pitting the immensely vast of the multiverse against the inner circle and confidential of Miles Morales.
Just as compelling as the first part, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse it is therefore a inspiring proposal. Both in its visual aesthetics and in its emotional sources. Above all, this saga, which will continue with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (expected on April 3, 2024), is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful tributes of the seventh art to Marvel comics, of any genre and of any era.
