Gladiator : a sequel 23 years later
23 years ago, Russell Crowe rose to fame and success through his role as Maximus in Gladiator. The Ridley Scott-directed film was a worldwide hit, grossing over $460 million in revenue.
Gladiator quickly established itself as a cult film, winning no less than 5 Oscars including the prestigious statuette for best film. Russell Crowe has established himself as one of Hollywood’s foremost comedians, while simultaneously pocketing the Best Actor trophy.

Two decades later, Ridley Scott returns to ancient Rome with a sequel that not all fans like. This time, without Russell Crowe, whose character dies at the end of the first film. A detail that does not prevent journalists from questioning him about his presence in Gladiator 2.
Russel Crowe is tired of answering the same question
Despite the tragic outcome of Maximus, Russell Crowe continues to be beset by an eternal question: will come back inside Gladiator 2 ? A question that has the gift of annoying the main interested party, as he confided to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (via Daily screen):
They should be paying me a fucking for the number of questions I had to answer about a fucking movie I’m not even in. It has nothing to do with me; in this world I’m dead, six feet under the ground, and that’s it.

Gladiator 2: Ridley Scott builds a huge Colosseum, the proof in the pictures!
In an early version of Gladiator 2, Maximus could have gone back to history before this idea was scrapped. The project has evolved and will now be led by Paul Mescal (after sun), in the skin of Lucius, son of Lucilla. Returning actors Djimon Hounsou and Connie Nielsen, while Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn (Stranger things) round out the cast.
