Doctor Strange 2 : A more horrific sequel

It was in 2016 that it was released on the screens Doctor Strange, the fourteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We then discovered a new superhero, Doctor Stephen Strange, who after a car accident travels to Kathmandu in the hope of regaining his abilities. Worn by Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange was a major success for Marvel with over $677 million in worldwide box office receipts. The actor then reprized his role in several MCU productions, before returning Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), the 28th MCU feature film, alongsidean excellent and terrifying Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda.

The approach of Doctor Strange 2 wants to be much darker with a penchant for horror (at least for a Marvel production). The film was supposed to include a bloody scene but it was cut during editing. From that point on, Scott Derrickson seemed like the ideal person to return to directing.

The director had truly made his mark in the horror genre with The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), Left (2012) OR Deliver us from evil (2014). However, despite the success of the first film, it was not he who directed the sequel, but another horror fan: Sam Raimi.

The famous different creatives often be used in this type of case. Scott Derrickson then decided to return to his departure during an episode of the podcast The speech. The director then confirms it what was said was true.

We definitely had creative differences. The film I wanted to make and the way I wanted to make it were different. It was more and more obvious (that as we studied) we were moving against each other.

Scott Derrickson won’t say what he had in mind, but according to him, his vision was simply different of what Marvel wanted to do. The director therefore preferred to retire to prevent the result from becoming “a monstrosity.

That’s how you make a really bad movie, I think. When the producer or the studio and the director make different films, you end up with a monstrosity and that’s why I had to leave.

Later, Marvel hired Sam Raimi. And despite his departure, Scott Derrickson says he is still on good terms with producer Kevin Feige and Marvel in general. Also, instead of Doctor Strange 2the director knew how to do it Black phonereleased in theaters in June 2022.
