The Office of Legends : Michael Fassbender in the remake
It’s been a year since the American remake project of Office of Legends was announced. The French Canal+ series, which made its mark for its realistic approach to espionage, attracted the attention of George Clooney and Showtime who decided to adapt it. The former was the first to collaborate with this company as a producer and director. But for a year the project hadn’t made much progress. At least until today, since we heard about it on February 28th the arrival of Michael Fassbender in the casting in the main role.
The actor, recently seen in The killer by David Fincher, will therefore be the new Malotru in The Department (taken from the remake series), which was worn in its day Mathieu Kassovitz. By chance we met the actor that same day to promote the film. The kings of the track, a delightful comedy that we will tell you about very soon. We therefore took the opportunity to ask Mathieu Kassovitz for his opinion on the matter this choice by Michael Fassbenderwith whom he worked Trapped (2012) by Steven Soderbergh. And his first reaction was to say, with humor, that the actor risked overshadowing him: “Fassbender? I’m not sure he’s very good for me, but he’s not bad (LAUGH)”.
For Mathieu Kassovitz “a European touch is needed”
As for the project as a whole, Mathieu Kassovitz is curious about the resultalthough fearing that the production will not be patient enough in carrying the story forward, unlike Bureau of Legends.
I’m very curious to see what they will do. I think it needs a European touch to make it work. The Legends Office continues to work the delicacy and complexity of the story. So they have to know how to hold back, not overdo it in the action scenes. The exciting thing about the original is that you follow the characters and care about them. You don’t quite understand what’s happening, you see the pieces of the puzzle and you stay because you want to understand how things are going.
Also, we see this with the first season where nothing happens. She’s a little annoying in the first season. Because the next one you need to have a little more. Add 10%, 20% every season. If you start like Homeland where in the first season the heroine has already survived two attacks. What will you do in season 2? Does he survive four attacks? No, so you’re in trouble. You really have to climb as you go, and I don’t know if Americans know how to do that.
Mathieu Kassovitz therefore remains cautious even if intrigued by this remake project, in particular thanks to the presence of George Clooney.
I like Clooney. She has this European touch and this ability to do this kind of thing. But I don’t know if they have the patience to produce this kind of program.
In any case, the arrival of Michael Fassbender should advance the production of The Department. No filming or broadcast date has been specified at this time.
