MaXXXine hits theaters this summer!
We talked about Ti West and his horrible trilogy that began with X (2022), a horror film set in the late 1970s and which saw a porn film shoot turn into a massacre. Then there was Pearl (2023)an even more fascinating prequel marked by a Mia Goth exceptional, especially during a very long monologue. The independent studio A24 therefore wasted no time in announcing the production of the third part. MaXXXine. And seeing the trailer of the film, the desire to discover this slasher on the big screen, which should pay homage to Scream 3 and Dario Argento, grew rapidly.
However, we feared that the feature film would not arrive in France. X was entitled to a discreet exit in theaters thanks to Kinovist, and has accumulated only 48,000 spectators. Then, Pearl has arrived in our homes directly on DVD and Blu-ray, this time thanks to Universal Pictures. But the studio just announced good news confirming it the exit of MaXXXinein theaters from August 28th!
The final part of a trilogy not to be missed
We suspect few people have seen it X AND Pearl. But don’t panic, each film can be watched independently. Of course there are connections, but Ti West has constructed each story well so we don’t get lost. This also derives from his desire to pay homage and appropriate different genres of horror cinema from time to time. X thus recalled Chainsaw massacre (1982), when Pearl it tended more towards Hitchcockian thriller.
In this third film MaXXXinewe will find the heroine of X survived a massacre a few years earlier. Having left for Los Angeles to become a movie star, she will see the people around her being targeted a serial killer called the Night Stalker. As mentioned above, this time it will be a pure slasher staged in the visual style of yellow.
Alongside Mia Goth, who appears more charismatic than ever, we find in the casting of MaXXXine Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon. You have until August 28th to (re)discover X and Pearl, available in physical format. Pearl is also currently available on MyCanal.
