Stepfamily just arrived on Netflix France
Blended family (Mixed in original version), an American romantic comedy released in 2014 in the United States, has just been added to the Netflix France catalog. This film, directed by Frank Coraci and starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, has never been released in French theaters. Its arrival on the platform will allow French audiences to discover it.
The feature film marks the third collaboration between Drew Barrymore and Adam SandlerAfter The Wedding Singer (1998) and 50 first dates (2004).
The film follows Jim Friedman (Adam Sandler), a single father of three daughters, and Lauren Reynolds (Drew Barrymore), a single mother of two boys, who meet on a blind date at a drugstore, orchestrated by mutual friends. However, This the first contact is a disaster : Jim, a bit rough and tumble, orders a drink that is too sweet for Lauren, which leads to a series of awkward misunderstandings. After this failed meeting, the two characters vow to never see each other again.
But fate has other plans. A few days after their date, Jim and Lauren accidentally find themselves sharing the same vacation at a luxury resort in South Africa, with their respective children. The situation becomes even more complicated when they realize they have to share the same family suite at the hotel. This luxurious safari setting then becomes the scene of a series of misadventures.
A film for fans of American comedies
When it was released in 2014, Blended family was a moderate commercial success with approximately $128 million in worldwide box office revenue (on a $40 million budget), but reviews were mixed. Although the chemistry between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore was praised, as was the comedic dynamic they bring to the screen, the script was often judged too predictable and not very innovative compared to other family comedies. The exotic setting in South Africa and Sandler’s sometimes exaggerated humor were not enough to convince all the critics, who saw in the film the repetition of formulas already seen in comedies of the same genre.
However, Blended family could find a new audience thanks to its arrival on Netflix France. This film is particularly aimed at fans of light and funny American comedies, with its typical humor of Adam Sandler and his comic duo with Drew Barrymore.
