Omar Sy vs. Tom Hanks

Alongside Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones, we found Hell our national Omar Sy.

After having already taken the first steps at an international level with roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past AND Jurassic WorldThe French actor continued his rise in Hollywood with this blockbuster by Ron Howard. In the film, he played Christophe Boucharda World Health Organization agent, a central character in the plot.

Although he has gained experience in big-budget productions, he filmedHell It was marked by an anecdote that reveals the pressure Omar Sy felt in front of a star like Tom Hanks. On his first day of filming in VeniceOmar Sy had to film a scene in which his character drags Tom Hanks’ character onto a boat, a stunt that Hanks chose to perform himself. Aware of his partner’s prestige, Omar Sy admitted he was very nervous, afraid of making a mistake with the man he called an “international treasure.”

In an interview given in 2021 to Tonight’s Show with Jimmy FallonOmar Sy humorously recounted the incident: “I said to myself, ‘Be calm, be careful, don’t hurt him.’ Who wants to be the one hurting Tom Hanks?” Although the scene went off without a hitch, Sy admitted that once it was over, he took a step back… and fell into the water. A rather embarrassing situation for his first day of shooting, but Tom Hanks, known for his sense of humor, managed to lighten the mood by joking about the incident throughout the day: “Remember, there’s water in Venice!”

Despite this minor inconvenience, the collaboration between Omar Sy and Tom Hanks left a positive impression. While promoting the film in October 2016, Tom Hanks talked about Sy on the show Waiting for Sundaypraising his charisma and talent: “He’s charming, he has this incredible smile that could light up the entire Earth. But he can also play bad guys! It was an honor to shoot with him.”
