Under the Seine: Netflix’s great French success
This year no one could miss the phenomenon Under the Seine. Xavier Gens’ Netflix film, in fact, broke all records around the world.
The film immerses viewers in a thrilling race against time. While a triathlon race on the Seine is planned for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a giant shark spreads terror in the river. Sophia, a brilliant scientist played by Bérénice Bejo, joins forces with Mika (Léa Léviant), an environmental activist, and Adil (Nassim Lyes), commander of the river police, to prevent a catastrophe in the heart of the French capital.
Since its release on June 5 on the platform with the red logo, the film has become the most watched French feature film of all time on Netflix. And the second most-watched non-English language film of all time, right behind Troll.

Under the Seine 2 made official by Netflix

Bérénice Bejo will reprise her role as a scientist, while Nassim Lyes will return as the commander of the river police. As a reminder, in the final scene of Under the Seineboth found themselves in a submerged Paris surrounded by sharks.
In a recent interview given to The TribuneBérénice Bejo had confided that the filming of Under the Seine 2 could begin in September 2025. But according to information from Variety, the film is only in the early stages and filming is not expected to take place before 2026.
